Karime Saad

Software Engineer and Designer

About Me

Hello! My name is Karime Saad and I am a Senior at the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering with my technical core being Software Engineering. I am anticipating to graduate in December 2017, and am open to full-time positions in Software Engineering and Front End Web Development.

For the past few years at college I have been discovering what I like doing and I am passionate about. I realized that programming is something I greatly enjoy because it gives me the chance to be as creative as I want to be.

Although I love programming in general, my main passion is front-end web development. I consider myself very artistic and creative, and have always shown interested in art and design.

Experience

Programming and Engineering Experience

For the past few years I have worked on various projects, either through my college classes, or on my free time, and have acquired knowledge and experience in the following tools and programming languages:

  • C
  • C++
  • Java
  • Python
  • Javascript
  • HTML, CSS, Bootstrap
  • Eclipse, Visual Studio, AndroidStudio, Sublime, LabView, Simulaid, IntelliJ
  • At school, I have taken some C, C++, and Java programming classes where I have developed a great understanding of object-oriented programming, algorithms, and data structures. Outside of school, I have used my free time to learn web-development and have helped create websites for different organizations by using Javascript, HTML, CSS and Bootstrap.

Software Engineering Internship at Target (Summer 2016)

Last summer I interned with Target as a Software Engineer where I worked at the Point-Of-Sale department. These are some of contributions as an intern:

  • Refactored existing POS code utilizing design patterns such as Model-View-Controller.
  • Contributed in developing new features in POS code, such as multi-tendering, using C++ and C#.
  • Helped integrate a new tender-type provided by Texas Government to the POS that uses smart-chip cards, and is estimated to produce 1.9M dollars a year in profit for the company.
  • Created several unit tests to ensure functioning of POS code after refactoring.

  • Art and Design Experience

Ever since I was 6 years old I have shown interest in art and design. I have taken painting and drawing classes throughout my life, which I consider have helped increase my creativity and artistic skills.

Intensive Pre-College Art and Design Program at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)

  • Completed two art and design collegiate level classes when I was a junior in high school
  • Succeeded the program with a cummulative GPA of 4.0 and got an immediate acceptance to start college in SCAD in an art and design related major
  • Created an online portfolio where I applied knowledge learned in the Adobe Creative Cloud Programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, DreamWeaver, and AfterWorks.

  • I believe these skills are useful for web developing because they help make the website user-friendly, and pleasing to the user's eye.
